Robin John: At Eventide, our tagline is “investing that makes the world rejoice®.”  This tagline is actually inspired by a Bible verse in Proverbs that says “When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices.”

We are wanting to partner with companies that are creating compelling value for the global common good, but we’re also wanting to avoid investing in companies that are causing harm in the world.

The righteous are people that prosper by taking care of the people in the city, the righteous people that take care of the poor and their host communities. And their profit is a byproduct of loving their neighbors. Whereas the wicked, when they prosper, they often prosper through exploitation by harming the poor, by harming the weakest in the city. So, when the wicked are prospering the people groan, the Bible says. And there are shouts of joy when the wicked are defeated.

So, I love the tagline “investing that makes the world rejoice®, because we want to be partnering with companies that are loving their neighbors and serving their stakeholders well.
